I am registered but nobody tells me what to do to get my grade. How does this work? You are assigned a partner to collaborate with. (Check your email in the next few days). Learn the assigned music (well). Rehearse with your assigned instrumentalist or vocalist. (This requires an ACTIVE ROLE on your part: you must contact the person you will work with as soon as Dr. Elisi sends the list of assignments). Make yourself available to play in your partner's own applied lesson (and do attend the lessons per teacher's request each week), which will be your coaching.
Will I get paid for this? Back to previous page You want to earn a credit and get paid at the same time? Uhh...Uhmm.... NO, sorry. We can't let this happen in this case.
What are the course requirements? Back to previous page
Students will be required to learn several vocal accompaniments per semester, and/or instrumental works. Students are required to perform in workshops, recitals, juries, master classes, voice forum, etc. if requested by the instrumental/vocal applied instructors. Repertoire must be heard in Dr. Elisi's class (Chamberiades) at least two weeks prior to any performance, and it is the pianist's responsibility to make their studio instructor and Dr. Elisi aware immediately of any new repertoire that has been assigned by a vocal/instrumental instructor. Pianists are required to perform for the juries of the students they accompany, if the applied teacher asks them. A student should always consult Dr. Elisi or their applied teacher before agreeing to accompany any piece in a performance.
Who assigns the pieces to be learned? Back to previous page The applied teacher of your assigned instrumentalist or vocalist, most likely. Or Dr. Elisi will.
How will I get the score? Back to previous page This is part of your having an active role in the collaboration. Ask your partner. Ask his/her teacher.
How do I get a grade? Back to previous page Dr. Elisi, in consultation with the teacher of your partner instrumentalist or vocalist, will decide the final semester grade.
What else do I need to do to earn my grade? Back to previous page In addition to playing and coaching on a weekly basis with the applied teacher of your vocalist or instrumentalist, you will need to "book" a time to play for Dr. Elisi a few times during the semester, depending on his availability. The dates of his Chamberiades classes (during which he will listen to your performance and coach the groups) are posted at < http://teaching.enricoelisi.com/subpage.html>. At that website you will also see the SIGN UP hyperlink which will allow you to sign up for a specific date and indicate a time for your performance. You can select either 5:30 p.m. or 6 .m., since the class runs from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. PLEASE BE FLEXIBLE and ask your partners to be flexible too when booking (i.e., do not book a time knowing that thirty minutes later you have a class). Flexibility is the nature of collaborations. Other times or dates may be available if everything is filled. Dates and times will go fast so book quickly and be ready to perform your assigned repertoire.
What happens if I find out that that my collaborator's applied lesson time does not work for my class schedule? Back to previous page Ask your collaborator to change or switch lesson time, first, by providing him/her with your available free times/days of the week. If that does not work out, inform Dr. Elisi IMMEDIATELY.
What else should I do? Re-read this message again, to make sure you remember the details; also, save it for future reference. Questions? Write to COLLABORATIVE [AT] PSU.EDU (substitute the [AT] with @) Back to previous page
